Weddings

Life cycle events are an opportunity for spiritual reflection and growth. My method of working with a couple around their wedding ceremony involves helping the couple deepen their understanding of themselves, each other, and the Jewish tradition. I like to hear about what is most important to each member of the couple, and to offer Jewish and other wisdom teachings and rituals that may be helpful. Together with the couple, I craft a ceremony that is a reflection of both the couple and of Jewish tradition.

I work with the couple with whatever ritual needs they have, including getting a ketubah, shaping the ceremony, and creating pre-wedding rituals, if they would like those. Additionally, I am available for conversations about relationships, expectations, and other interpersonal matters.

I am always curious about the spiritual lives of the couple, their relationship to Jewish tradition, and how they understand their wedding at this time in their lives. I was trained in the Reconstructionist Movement of Judaism, a movement grounded in a liberal ideology, respecting and inclusive of LGBT folks and of people from all races.

Interfaith Policies:

I perform interfaith wedding ceremonies, and I am willing to add elements of other faiths to a wedding ceremony as long as those elements do not contradict with Jewish beliefs. Other clergy may say a poem or prayer during the service; however, I cannot co-officiate with clergy from other faith traditions.

Weddings on Saturday night:

I am willing to do the huppah part of the wedding ceremony on Saturday evening before sunset.
